When I travel solo in a new destination, I always look for accommodations that are centrally located, comfortable and convenient. After doing my research, I decided to book Crowne Plaza Porto because it’s a brand I love and trust. The hotel is located in the business and cultural district. Although not actually situated in the city centre, it is convenient as it is close to the buses and metro.

Crowne Plaza Porto: First Impressions
Porto was the last leg of my Portuguese solo trip. I arrived late in the city by train from Lisbon. Although the journey from Campanhã station to the hotel was possible via public transport, I decided to take an Uber for convenience. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped inside the main door. I was greeted by the professional and nice staff at Crowne Plaza. There were glasses of port and lemon water on offer for guests.
I was concerned that the Crowne Plaza Porto was a little away from the main attractions however it turned out to be a great choice. It is close enough to the city by Uber or buses but at the same time, you avoid being in the touristy area. Which means that you have a bit of quietness and peace!
The modern lobby was spacious and inviting despite the hotel being primarily a business hotel.

The Room

I was given a room on the upper floor which was very quiet despite the big number of guests. The hotel was hosting a conference that day. I didn’t expect to sleep as well as I did. The hotel has the Sleep Advantage® Programme, an initiative to help guests have a deep restful sleep. My king-size bed came with premium bedding and was super comfortable. They provided a pillow spray, containing essential oils, that was supposed to inspire a good night sleep. I can tell you that the combination of the spray, double-glazed windows and thick curtains worked like a charm because I slept like a baby.
The room was beautifully decorated and clean. Facilities to make tea and coffee were provided along with an ironing board and a functional desk. The bathroom was quite big with a bathtub, an overhead shower and good water pressure.
Yummy Breakfast

Breakfast and dinner are served at the SOMOS Restaurant & Lounge. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a nice design. The breakfast spread was one of the best I have ever had. I usually rank Doubletree by Hilton has the best in terms of breakfast offerings.

This particular Crowne Plaza had an amazing spread which was fresh and delicious. The options were endless from delicious croissants, pains aux chocolat, yoghurt and cereal bars, hot breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon etc, fresh fruits, juices and a selection of the best custard tarts. Before even leaving the hotel, I had at least eaten a dozen of them!

If breakfast is not included in your booking, I highly recommend you had it as it is totally worth it. Whether you are looking for a healthy, continental or hearty breakfast, Crowne Plaza Porto is sure to cater to all your needs (including gluten-free).

At nighttime, guests can enjoy drinks at the adjoining SOMOS Bar.

Useful things to note
- There are lots of outlets in the room making it easy to stay connected. They even had an adaptor and USB sockets which were quite handy.
- The hotel offers dedicated “quiet zone” rooms which is a wonderful thing as the outside noise and distractions are kept to a minimum which means maximum sleep. Bonus!
- The wellness centre doesn’t offer the usual sauna and steam room but offer treatments including Thai massages, manicures etc…
- There is a “Club Lounge” with all-day snacks but it comes at an extra cost.

I need to go to Porto! I think it is important to stay close to the main attractions but far enough away from the crowd for some peace and quiet. That breakfast looked amazing!
This is awesome. I plan on going to Porto next year. I like to stay a little away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas and this sounds perfect.
Looks like a great pick! The breakfast looks pretty bountiful! I am wondering though…who would NOT want a quiet room if given the choice?! I need all the sleep I can get when I am touring a new country! 🙂
Crowne Plaza is a great hotel chain and this one seems just as wonderful as the ones I’ve stayed at. Thanks for the recommendation.
