My sisters and I went on our first trip in a long time and had the best time in Malta. This trip was long due; we had planned it years ago but had to postpone it due to the pandemic. We wanted to find a hotel that ticked all the boxes. The Hyatt Regency Malta checked most of our boxes: not a big resort, pool, spa facility and good location. Please continue to read our review of our stay.

Where is Hyatt Regency Malta located?
Hyatt Regency Malta is located in the heart of St Julian’s, near Valletta. The island’s resort town (most of Malta’s resort hotels are found here) is the perfect base for your Malta trip. The ideal location makes it easy to explore the island’s top attractions. Just opposite the hotel, you have the Bay Street Shopping complex. You have the pristine beach of George’s Bay within walking distance and Spinola Bay. Valletta is a short ride away.

Arrival and check-in
Hyatt Regency Malta is a beautiful, modern property. We arrived and walked past the courtyard and were amazed by the chapel near the hotel. It was one of the reasons we chose to stay at Hyatt Regency Malta. The concierge then greeted us with a welcoming smile.
The Hyatt Regency Malta is an upscale hotel and part of the Hyatt brand. It has 151 rooms, including 12 suites, many of which have a balcony overlooking the city and the sea beyond. The lobby was nicely decorated with modern, sophisticated seats to enjoy a drink or grab a small bite.

The check-in was quick and efficient, and we were offered our room immediately. It was located on the 6th floor, in the corner as you exit the lift. We were worried about the possible noise caused by the ins and outs; however, we were pleasantly surprised as we did not hear any noise.
Rooms at Hyatt Regency Malta
Our King Bed View room, located on the 6th floor, was spacious and overlooked the Augustinian priory. We had lots of space, even with an additional bed, since we were three in the room! The room had a big “65-flat-screen TV which you could cast to watch Netflix or Youtube, a tea and Nespresso machine, complimentary water and a mini-fridge. The large wardrobe contained the iron, ironing board, a hair dryer, and a safe. The room usually has a sofa removed in favour of the additional bed.

A handwritten welcome letter was on the bed, together with Lindt chocolates. And every time they did our room, they left chocolate by our pillows. I found this to be sweet.
The room was well connected with many power sockets, a wireless charger and USB ports on either side of the bed and the desk. The narrow balcony could still fit two chairs and a small table. It was a lovely spot for a morning espresso or to catch the sunset.

The walking bathroom was the highlight of the room, with a lovely walk-in shower and a rain shower head.
Dining at Hyatt Regency Malta
The hotel had three dining options: Seed, the main restaurant, and GINger and Thyme (rooftop bar and lobby bar, respectively).
Breakfast at Seed restaurant
The food here at Hyatt Regency was far better than anything else.

Just like dinner, the breakfast is served at Seed restaurant. The breakfast items were huge: pastries, fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts, Maltese bread, cold meats, and cheese selections. As well to the continental style breakfast, there was also the English version, including sausages, scrambled egg, bacon, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and hash browns. There was a variety of fresh juice and smoothies. If you are looking for an upscale hotel in Malta, look no further than our Hyatt Regency Malta Hotel Review.

There was also an ” a la carte” menu to order from, all-inclusive of breakfast. I had perfect poached eggs each time. As a gluten-free and lactose-intolerant person, finding gluten-free and lactose-free options in hotels is not always easy for my sister. However, the staff at the Seed restaurant made it all very easy. Taking note of her dietary requirements the night before, they were able to provide her with an excellent breakfast throughout our stay. I must stress that Hristdjan and his colleagues went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time. They ensured we got our preferred table and knew our preferred drinks too.

Dinner at Seed
We had dinner at the Seed restaurant on our first night at the Hyatt Regency Malta. After exploring the surroundings, we came back to sample the food, despite seeing many dining options. The restaurant overlooking the historical St Rita Chapel serves seasonal Mediterranean dishes. Our experience was excellent from start to finish. The service was impeccable, and the staff catered to all our requests. We started with complimentary bread with tomato paste and butter. We then had the following:

- Starters: Baby gem salad, kale pesto, dates and walnuts and Brioche with white crab, almonds, beetroot
- Mains: Pan-seared Chicken breast served with a leg cigar, crispy wing, seed-crusted carrot and puree and Pan-fried Wild Seabass, Fish Tortellini, Pommes Puree and Fish Velouté
- Deserts: Deconstructed lemon tart with di latte ice cream
Everything was delicious, the chicken was tender, and the sea bass was cooked perfectly. The dessert was the just perfect end of the dinner.

Thyme is the hotel’s bar and is located by the lobby. It offers excellent drinks, snacks and light food such as burgers and pasta. You can find another place to eat on the hotel’s rooftop. GINger, the casual cafe and bar, serve Asian-inspired snacks and food. Although we have not tried the food there, I’m sure it’s incredible, based on the experiences at both Seed and Thyme.
Facilities at Hyatt Regency Malta
The hotel has several good facilities ensuring that guests can relax during their stay. The hotel has been designed with relaxation in mind, from the rooftop pool to the wellness centre.
Due to its size, there weren’t many activities to do at the hotel like the neighbouring resorts; nevertheless, the hotel had several facilities so guests could relax during their stay. The hotel has been designed for relaxation, from the rooftop pool to the wellness centre.
Carissa Spa & Wellness
I loved the spa and wellness centre of Hyatt Regency Malta. It’s the perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Guests can indulge in treatments including a couple of options, a steam bath, a Finnish sauna and even an ice fountain! The indoor pool with water jets is excellent too. While our older sister indulged in a spa treatment, my younger sister and I enjoyed the indoor pool. We had the facility to ourselves the entire time we were there. During our stay, we had a good time enjoying the sauna and the steam room.

Rooftop Swimming Pool
As well as an indoor pool the hotel had an outdoor pool too. The rooftop pool is perfect for an afternoon drink and offers a great view of Paceville and the sea. It is the ideal place to unwind, especially during sunset. We were told that the pool was heated; however, we didn’t try as it was a little cold during our visit.
Fitness Centre – Hyatt StayFit ™ Gym
Although I am one of those travellers who never hit the hotel gym, I had to have a little snoop to see what it looked like. The fitness centre was well equipped with all the necessary equipment (including a running machine and weight lifting) to help people relieve some stress. Since it’s open 24/7, you can visit at any time of the day or night!
