Getting to Èze Village from Nice: Transportation Guide
Here’s my first tip: arrive early. Èze is tiny, and it fills up fast — by mid-morning, it can feel wall-to-wall with tourists.
On our trip, we made the mistake of visiting Èze in the afternoon, after spending the morning in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. In hindsight, I’d recommend visiting these villages on separate mornings, then enjoying coastal towns like Beaulieu-sur-Mer or Villefranche-sur-Mer in the afternoon.
By Bus from Nice
Bus lines 82 and 112 connect Nice city centre to Èze Village, running approximately once per hour. During peak season, buses fill up quickly, so it’s best to arrive at the bus stop early.
Pro tip: Check the Lignes d’Azur website for current schedules, as timetables vary by season.
Alternative Monaco Route
When we were ready to leave, instead of waiting forever for a return bus to Nice (which we missed), we hopped on a bus line 112 to Monaco and then took a quick, scenic train back to Nice. This was actually faster, and we got a bonus peek at Monaco!

- Plan B: Bus to Monaco, then train to Nice
- Plan C: Bus to Èze-sur-Mer station, then train to Nice
Driving to Èze Village

By Train
The nearest station is Èze-sur-Mer, located at sea level. From there, you can take a taxi, bus 83 up to the village or hike the challenging 45-minute trail with coastal views.

Explore the Medieval Village Streets
Stepping through the Postern Gate, I felt like I’d been transported into a fairytale. Part of Èze’s 14th-century defence system, this double-door entrance has protective towers and a former drawbridge.
Cobblestone Street Wandering
Narrow stone streets, archways, staircases and tiny squares invite you to explore at your own pace. Every corner reveals new perspectives of traditional stone houses, decorative doors, and mountain or sea vistas. I couldn’t resist photographing the flower-draped balconies and the intricate old doors.
Planet Square and Historic Fountain
Don’t miss Planet Square, home to Èze village’s only fountain. Installed in the 1920s by American billionaire Samuel Barlow, this fountain saved residents from carrying water buckets up from the village’s single well.
Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption
In the heart of the village, you’ll find the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, built in the 18th century. The Baroque church features a pale yellow façade and quiet interior with lovely frescoes. Its bell tower was added in the 19th century, creating the iconic silhouette visible throughout the village.
Historic Château Houses
As you explore Èze Village, keep an eye out for historic castle-houses now converted to luxury accommodations:

- Château Lou Seuil (Château Balsan)
- Château Eza (now a 5-star hotel & 1 Michelin-starred restaurant)

If you only do one thing in Èze, make it the Jardin Exotique d’Èze since it is absolutely unmissable. Perched at the village’s highest point, this exotic garden combines rare cacti and succulents with breathtaking Mediterranean panoramas.
We easily spent an hour wandering its terraced paths. The contrast of the exotic plants against the azure sea was pure magic.

We loved browsing the boutiques and galleries, although the crowd made it difficult to chat with some of the artists. Nevertheless, I managed to get some unique souvenirs.
Where to Eat in Èze Village
For lunch, you have the options between fine dining and more simpler restaurants. La Chèvre d’Or and Château Eza offer unforgettable fine dining with a price tag to match! Outside the village entrance, you can find simpler restaurants and cafés. We opted for a sandwich from a boulangerie, which we enjoyed on a shady bench with a view, a simple and perfect choice.

Most visitors come to Èze on a day trip, but staying overnight lets you experience the medieval village without the crowds.
